On July 27, 2020, Deputy Cameron Cain was one of multiple Lexington County Sheriff's Department units responding with lights and sirens to a call about a suicidal person. A vehicle from the oncoming lane on Meadowfield Road crashed into Deputy Cain's Tahoe after other cars had stopped to let the emergency vehicles through.

Deputy Cain suffered significant neck, head and facial injuries and was in the hospital for more than a week. He’s home now after multiple surgeries. He has quite a recovery ahead, including a special diet for the next few weeks as his jaw heals.

Deputy Cain started at Lexington County Sheriff's Department in July 2016. He’s a patrol deputy in the southern part of the county. According to the department, he has maintained a good attitude and his dry wit since the crash.

"I am so grateful that Cameron is going to recover from this accident," shared his wife Jessica. "The gratitude is overwhelming. There has been so much support from Lexington County Sheriff's Department, other wives, family and friends. From the bottom of my heart, thank you."

This fundraiser is established to support Deputy Cain and his family during his recovery.

The fundraiser is facilitated by Serve & Connect, a nonprofit (501c3) organization focused on igniting positive change through police-community partnerships. Since 2015, Serve & Connect has raised more than $600,000 for families of fallen officers in South Carolina. Serve & Connect was founded by Kassy Alia Ray in memory of her late husband, Officer Gregory Alia, who was killed in the line of duty on September 30, 2015. This fundraiser is endorsed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, the South Carolina Sheriff's Association, South Carolina Police Chief's Association, South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police, and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. 100% of funds raised will be provided directly to support Deputy Cain during his recovery. All donations are tax deductible.
