On September 18, 2023, South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Z.G. Rickard was involved in a serious motorcycle crash while on duty. Lance Corporal Rickard is currently being treated for serious injuries at a hospital in Columbia where he is stable and alert but will have a long road to recovery ahead of him.

Lance Corporal Rickard has served with the South Carolina Highway Patrol for nearly six years. Prior to joining the SCHP Motor Unit in 2023, he previously served in Troop 1, specifically in Sumter and Clarendon counties. Born and raised in Sumter, he currently resides there with his wife. Prior to joining the SC Highway Patrol, he was a firefighter and has dedicated his career in public service.

“Lance Corporal Rickard is a true public servant, dedicating his life to serving others. It’s always a very sad day when we hear one of our own has been seriously injured on the job. The South Carolina Highway Patrol family is rallying for Lance Corporal Rickard in his recovery and we will be with him every step of the way,” says SCHP Colonel Christoper N. Williamson.

This fundraiser is intended to support Lance Corporal Rickard and his family moving forward in his recovery. 100% of the funds raised will be given to Lance Corporal Rickard. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
