On the afternoon of November 16, 2023, Oconee County Sheriffs deputies pulled over a man driving a pick-up truck. However, after initially pulling over, the man sped away. The driver led officers on a pursuit when, about four miles down, shots were fired.

Corporal Lucas Watts was hit by gunfire and seriously injured. He has undergone multiple surgeries. At this time, he is in stable but critical condition.

Cpl Watts is a six-year law enforcement veteran. He and his wife, Haley, welcomed their first child in September 2023.

This fundraiser is intended to support Corporal Watts and his family moving forward in his recovery. 100% of the funds raised will be given to Corporal Watts. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

ABOUT THIS FUNDRAISER

The fundraiser is facilitated by Serve & Connect, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization focused on igniting positive change through police-community partnerships. Serve & Connect has raised more than $800,000 for injured officers and the families of fallen officers in South Carolina. Serve & Connect was founded by Kassy Alia Ray in memory of her late husband, Officer Gregory Alia, who was killed in the line of duty on September 30, 2015. This fundraiser is endorsed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, the South Carolina Sheriff's Association, South Carolina Police Chiefs Association, South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police, and the Oconee County Sheriffs Office. 100% of funds raised will be provided directly to Corporal Watts. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
